Atheism and De-Baptism

FYI: this post has been moved here.

  1. First off, the implied criticism of the NSS for raising money by charging for these whimsical pieces of parchment is unwarranted. The purpose and import of the certificate and the use to which the money will be used is clearly stated so there is not the least bit of fraud or coercion involved. The same cannot be said for many religious organizations and their fund raising efforts.

Secondly, this organization is not just an atheist (in the anti-theistic sense you used) advocacy group - not that it would matter if they were - as they state on their web site, they are promoters of secular freedom - "...defending the rights of non-believers from the demands of religious power-seekers." This is a valid purpose regardless of whether or not they have satisfied you in their justification for non-belief. (Actually, the idea that one needs a justification for the non-belief in any supernatural nonsense is presumptuous.

I do have to agree with you about the idea that infant baptism as child abuse is way out there. Given the much greater and immediate harm cause to children (both physical and psychological) by a religious indoctrination, focusing of a trivial piece of symbolic mumbo jumbo is not justified.

Also, I've known a number of vegetarians that have expressed just that attitude about their parents feeding them meat. I can easily see that position becoming the mainstream viewpoint in a few hundred years (assuming that vegetarianism becomes the norm.)

  2. "Unable to make a positive case for their positions and continuing to demonstrated their inability to base their atheism on anything but opposition to God (almost exclusively the one of the Bible) and religion (almost exclusively Christianity)"

If this is supposed to be an April Fool joke it's not funny, because it could easily be mistaken for your genuine view, in which case it is merely absurd.

  3. I can base my atheism in 101 ways. I'm not sure if I can say the same for God.

I don't discriminate or opiniate other's beliefs why should you?

Had you not been taught your God believing religion, do you think God would've contacted you? Religion is a story that has been passed for thousands of years. It has been changed and altared for so many years that most religions are based on the same things, except different details.

What you see is what you believe. Have you seen God? Have you beared witness to Jesus? Have you beared witness to Mohammed?

Have you seen St. Nickalous? You know there's no Santa Claus but you continue to tell your kids that there is. This ignorance is the very thing religion is based on...

I don't know if there is a God, but how do YOU know there is?

  4. why do the atheist commentators always prove this author right?

Unable to make a positive case for their positions and continuing to demonstrated their inability to base their atheism on anything but opposition to God (almost exclusively the one of the Bible) and religion (almost exclusively Christianity)

every single atheist poster did exactly this.

  5. Lol.

Scott, it's April 2nd already, we can't excuse your exhalations as a failed joke.

Do you *really* not understand what is wrong with Mariano's opening paragraph?

  7. I like facehead, he's funny. (why is it so freaking hard to post on this site lately?)

"Atheism is Dead", is that the new standard for positive? c'mon guys, this is getting ridiculous.

Just give us the evidence for the existance of the god of the bible, with brevity, maybe like a paragraph or less.

Life is evidence for God, since there is no naturalistic force of nature able to create living systems out of dead matter. If you think there are, then show that magical force.

You sound very sure - you must be an expert on modern abiogenesis research. Alternatively, you haven't even done a cursory Google search and just decided that you "know".

"If you think there are, then show that magical force."

There's nothing magical about it, it's happening quite naturally, give it a few more years. Scientific discoveries don't necessarily follow your schedule, you know.

In the meantime here's some reading for you:
