  1. Well, I'm with Zilch. This site is too much like Comfort's for my comfort. Repetition is so repetitious, you know.

  2. First off, it is absolutely clear that abstinence only sex education does not work. It has also been shown that 'purity' oaths do not in any way affect the amount of sex teenagers have or the date that teenagers begin to have sex. The only thing that abstinence only/purity oaths accomplish is to make the parents feel better - a way to be able to say 'I told you so' when their daughters come home pregnant.

Secondly, where in the entire transcript did any one say anything that warrants:
"But making fun of, laughing at, and applauding children that are raped by their own parents is a level of malicious perversion that I simply cannot fathom."

I have read the transcript several times and for the life of me, I can not see where that sentiment is expressed.

What I read was almost the direct opposite. There was a visceral response to the ick factor in the symbolic marriage of the fathers to their daughters at this 'purity prom'. I actually do not comprehend how any reasonably moral, rational and sane person could think that recasting the role, even on a symbolic level, of Father into that of Husband is anything other than perverse. That is the source of the humor: it is the disconnect between the ostentatious display that is meant to promote 'purity' but that, to most peoples eyes, actually symbolizes the exact opposite of 'pure'.

If you are going to repeat articles, you could at least pick ones where you have not completely misunderstood the source material, even after having read transcript to be 'triply certain'.

Incorrect. It works perfectly well in the fictional world in my head where "my daughter" won't do the things I did when I was that age.

"It has also been shown that 'purity' oaths do not in any way affect the amount of sex teenagers have or the date that teenagers begin to have sex."
Some studies indicate that it can delay sexual intercourse by up to 18 months. Of course, when the time has elapsed, less use condoms/the pill/etc and more have more dangerous sex, like anal.

"The only thing that abstinence only/purity oaths accomplish is to make the parents feel better - a way to be able to say 'I told you so' when their daughters come home pregnant."
Incorrect. Conversations with people who believe in ab-only over comprehensive (with an abstinence component) firmly believe that their kids are not like the "other" kids. They get mad, incidentally, when you tell them to act surprised when their daughter gets pregant.

    Splitters!

Come on you guys, what's wrong with obsessing over two year old talk shows? Don't you realize that this is crucial evidence for the existence of God! Also, it clearly demonstrates that atheism is dead.

I think the topics on this blog are clearly reaching for new heights[1] lately, so I'm going to hang around for the show.

    [1] of absurdity.

  5. Thanks so much Mariano for your help with the blog headers! Also, I think you have captured Bill Maher in his best possible light, which was kind of you.

  6. Jdhuey;
Nice to hear form you and thanks for the comments.

As for your question and statement, “where in the entire transcript did any one say…I have read the transcript several times and for the life of me, I can not see where that sentiment is expressed. What I read was almost the direct opposite.”

I think that the whole transcript speaks for itself but you may want to draw your attention to statements such as:

religious people holding balls, I usually think of Catholics. [laughter] [applause]

then dad has sex with her in the car. [laughter] [applause]

man passes the daughter from dad to the husband

"My Father Went to Third Base and All I Got was this Lousy T-Shirt." [laughter] [applause]

And my favorite.[laughter] [he holds up t-shirt which reads, "My (picture of 'pussy'cat) Belongs to Daddy." [laughter] [groans] [applause]

  7. You said something quite interesting. You asked ...

"I actually do not comprehend how any reasonably moral, rational and sane person could reach such depths of darkness."

... I think I see where you are going wrong there with Bill Maher. Why would you describe him as moral, rational or sane ?

  9. Boy, you've really got a problem. Why don't you just not watch Maher? Those who think he's funny, smart or have a positive view of him will just disagree with you. I don't think he was trying to change your mind with his comments, he was simply expressing his opinion. He has a right to one you know, same as you.
